Dandasana - Staff Pose
(don-DAHS-anna)

Try It!

bethany-dandasana.jpg (30918 bytes)

Bethany Lohss in Dandasana

Sit on the floor with the legs stretched out straight in front of you and your feet pointing up to the ceiling.

Manually roll the thighs in so the knees point up.

Draw the inner knees and ankles together as well if possible.

Sit slightly in front of the sit bones distributing the weight evenly.

Now, press the tops of the thighs down to the floor and place the hands by the sides of the hips with fingertips forward.

Roll the shoulders down and into the spine.

Lift the trunk evenly and extend the spine up.

Broaden the sternum and have the neck and head straight and balanced directly over the spine.

Focus in this pose: Learn to maintain concavity in the back by bringing the middle of the spine into the body without allowing the front ribs to stick out or back ribs to draw.

Enjoy!
