Book Review:  Yoga for Pregnancy by Sandra Jordan

Yoga for Pregnancy is a thoughtfully designed useful guide for any level yoga practitioner. The content of this yoga tool includes helpful hints and cautions and advises the student to consult their OB-GYN before beginning their practice.

The design is clear and easy to follow by dividing the poses suitable for each trimester. The asanas selected are of optimum relativity to the physical and psychological changes occurring throughout the nine months of pregnancy. Photographs of pregnant women in various postures using the wall, chairs, bolsters and cushions demonstrate a peace and ease of movement vital to a healthy pregnancy and smooth relaxed delivery.

One of my student’s is in her first trimester so I lent her my copy of Yoga for Pregnancy. She commented that the book provides excellent modifications to the classic poses. She will use it more often in the next trimester, when she is not so tired. She is very happy to be doing yoga.

I especially liked the postnatal poses. How sweet and joyous to care for your self and your baby simultaneously. The book concludes with a section defined by trimester, of a series of photos showing the various asanas with the page referenced for the student’s ease of use. The photographs are clear and the instructions precise. I have used this book as a reference in my classes. I find this little book an inspiration, both useful and well written. I wish I had read it when I was pregnant.
